FLUXUS Opera Lab Writing Mentorship with Dr Caitlin Vincent.

I've been incredibly lucky to be awarded an inaugural Australian FLUXUS Opera Lab Mentorship with deep appreciation to Director Ali McGregor and the Fluxus team.

This mentorship supports ten artists at early and mid stages of development, with a focus on experimentation, collaboration, and expanding the possibilities of opera as a contemporary artform. This approach not only generates new Australian repertoire but also opens space for storytellers from diverse backgrounds and for those who have previously felt “othered” by opera (ie me).

I've been matched with Dr Caitlin Vincent, Cultural labour scholar and Opera librettist / lyricist. Through a series of 1:1 sessions, we'll look at my writing in my Subtle Roar project (song composition, playwriting), to see how my work and voice might be transformed by and into, contemporary opera.
